    In-Service Kit: "Managing Behavior "

This ready-to-teach in-service package includes all the pieces needed to teach a 25-minute in-service.

    In-Service Topic "Managing Behavior"
By managing difficult behaviors, caretakers can help to greatly reduce the need for the number and amount of medications a resident takes. In order to succeed at reducing behaviors, caretakers are taught the “ABC” method. This method identifies activators (“A”) of the behavior, the behavior itself (“B"), and the consequence following the behavior (“C”). Once behaviors are reduced using the ABC method, there will be a sense of peace in the entire home that makes caregivers’ jobs less stressful and helps residents enjoy their lives more. In this in-service, caregivers learn the following:

    • To work as a team to observe the resident and observe activators (triggers) of behaviors
    • To proactively avoid activators
    • To assess the consequence of each incident, and to work as a unified team to institute appropriate consequences
    • To introduce good care practices while instituting the ABC method (i.e., knowing the resident, taking time for quality care instead of rushing, and paying attention to personal preferences)
