Seven New Geriatric Spiritual Care Graduates!

On Sunday June 14, 2015 the Avila Institute was proud to award seven new graduates their certificates of completion for the Geriatric Spiritual Care Program during a special mass and award ceremony. Coming from different areas and levels of healthcare, all attended the program to better minister and care more effectively for the spiritual, psychological, emotional and physical needs of the elderly. They are excited to take their developed sensitivity, understanding, and spirituality into their day-to-day care of the elderly.

In November of 2014, the Lifetime TV Network debuted an all-new series titled “The Sisterhood: Becoming Nuns”. The series followed five young women during the initial discernment phase of entering religious life as Catholic nuns. One of the convents visited during the series was the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm in Germantown, NY. The Carmelite Sisters were able to interact with and offer guidance to these young women as they continue their journey.

On February 17th, the Avila Institute and the NRRO co-sponsored another successful webinar titled “Interacting with Religious Members with Memory Impairment”. The webinar presenter, Alfred Norwood, is a behavior specialist who uses applied behavior analysis combined with current neuropsychology to resolve behaviors in community and institutional based seniors with cognitive and memory deficits.
