Robert A. Brescia, M.D., Calvary Hospital’s director of the Palliative Care Institute and of Psychiatric Services, has more than 30 years’ experience in the psychiatric care of advanced cancer patients. During that time, he has cared for over 12,000 terminal patients. Dr. Brescia directs the research and educational programs at Calvary Hospital, including the palliative care training of medical students, residents and fellows throughout the greater New York area. He has lectured extensively on psychiatric issues in advanced disease, particularly delirium and depression, and has contributed to several psychosocial research studies in palliative care. Dr. Brescia graduated from Fordham University in 1973. He received his medical degree from State University of New York- downstate Medical Center and his psychiatric training at the New York Hospital- Cornell Medical Center. He is on the teaching faculty at New York Medical College and SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. He is Board Certified in both Psychiatry and Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
